The PMD 620 Super rebuilds the PMD 620 mic preamp with a very low noise, low distortion and high slew rate op amp that dramatically enhances detail and clarity while lowering noise and audible distortions. This upgrade also improves the line input circuit and increases the mic input gain by 6dB in order to record lower signal levels without using the ALC circuit. The built in mics are removed to maximize microphone input quality, all other features remain intact.

Components are selected by ear to optimize detail and imaging for ENG, Acoustic Music or Ambient recordings with Ambisonics or Schoeps Surround mics. Improvements are also made to reduce the audible digital noise that contaminates the analog signal path with noise generated by the display, essential for high gain applications.

The FR-2LE Super MOD improves the entire signal path up to the A/D chip. This includes replacing the low grade input capacitors with ultra HQ capacitors and the low slew rate JRC 2122 op amps are replaced with high slew rate, low noise and distortion op amps chosen by ear for the best performance. All op amps and capacitors in the signal path to the A/D chip are upgraded. The Super MOD removes the 1/4" unbalanced input from the signal path, it can be left intact by request.
