The PCM-D1 portable audio recorder is ideal for capturing ambient sounds or for journalists recording in the field. Features include 96 kHz-24 bit recording capability, 4GB internal Flash Memory, removable Memory Stick Pro High-Speed storage (optional) and a built-in USB port compatible with Macintosh® and Windows®/PC operating systems. The PCM-D1 is lightweight, free of all drive mechanisms, equipped with highly sensitive electret condenser microphones, and designed with circuits that process stereo sound with virtually no extraneous noise. The body of this portable recorder is made of pressed titanium that's ten times harder than alumite-treated aluminum.
We love the sound of the PCM-D1 and its built in mics both for interviews and capturing audio samples "on the fly". Its a great piece to keep with you whether you are a sonic artist or field reporter. Walking the back trails or city, when you hear a really interesting sound you can snag it quick with excellent quality. Set up for interviews has never been easier, you are recording high grade voice in a matter of seconds. It has an impressive limiter that simply records the input signal down 20 dB, if an overload occurs, it substitutes the undamaged data from this buffer for nearly perfect limiting. It has a very clean sound and very nice stereo imaging with a good sense of openness and depth.
